Aliya Rao is a Sociologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Methodology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her research explores families, gender, work and organizations, and emotions. Her first book, which examines the experiences of unemployed American professionals, is available from the University of California Press.

Rao's scholarly work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Marriage and Family, Sociological Methods and Research, Work, Employment and Society, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, and Research in the Sociology of Work. Her research has also been featured in major media outlets such as the Financial Times, The New York Times, and Huffington Post. In addition, she has contributed essays and commentary to publications including The Atlantic, Harvard Business Review, and Quartz.
