Karla Mason Bergen received her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and is Associate Professor at the College of Saint Mary, Omaha, Nebraska where she is also program director of Communication. She teaches courses including interpersonal communication, family communication, gender communication, as well as research methods for health professionals. A dual background in Family Communication and Women’s Studies led to her scholarly agenda of investigating questions related to women’s communicative construction of identity. Her scholarly work on the communicative dynamics of commuter marriage has been published in outlets including Journal of Applied Communication, Journal of Family Communication and Journal of Social and Personal Relationships.
